FAQs

What does the first psychology session look like?

Attending your first psychology session can be daunting and it is normal to feel nervous or anxious. The initial session is dedicated to understanding you and your difficulties and collaboratively we will develop goals for therapy. This session provides an opportunity to understand your history and current concerns and to feel comfortable with a psychologist. Following the first session we will develop a unique treatment plan tailored to your goals.

This is an opportunity to ask any questions about what to expect from treatment, confidentiality, and modes of treatment available.

How long is a psychology session?

A session is conducted over 50 minutes allowing 10 minutes to book additional appointments and finalise payment.

How many sessions will I need?

In your first session, we will discuss the number and frequency of your sessions. This will include factors such as your needs, goals, treatment approach and any other considerations.

The Medicare Better Access Scheme typically provides rebates for up to 10 sessions per calendar year with a psychologist when referred by your GP under a Mental Health Care Plan.

The session frequency and duration will be based on your personal needs and can be reviewed throughout the treatment.

Do I need a referral?

You can be self-referred or we accept referrals from the following providers:
GP's, Paediatricians & Psychiatrists for a Medicare rebate
Friends or family member
Guidance Officers
WorkCover Queensland

Please ensure you provide a copy of your referral prior to your initial appointment.

Is there a Medicare rebate?

If you have a referral under Medicare's Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative, you will receive a rebate of $93.35 per session from Medicare for up to 10 sessions in a calendar year (1 January to 31 December). Please email a copy of your referral prior to your first appointment to claim this rebate.

Is there a cancellation fee?

We certainly appreciate life gets busy. To cancel or reschedule an appointment, please provide at least two full business days’ notice prior to the day of your scheduled appointment. A business day includes a weekday, Monday to Friday, other than a public holiday. A business day does not include the day of your appointment.

If an appointment is cancelled within two full business days prior to the scheduled appointment, 75% of session fee will apply. If an appointment is cancelled within one business day prior to the day of the appointment, or there is no attendance, the full session fee will apply. We are unable to book subsequent sessions until cancellation fees are paid. This cancellation policy ensures we have adequate time to allow other clients to take this appointment.
